Configuring Analog web reports

Analog shows you the usage patterns on your web server. …

By default, Analog produces useful reports, but reports are easy to customize for your needs. The configuration files in your web hosting account are at /usr/home/USERNAME/log_config/, one per domain, following the form example.com.cfg.

A boilerplate configuration file that pleases most of my clients is:

# Analog config file for example.com
# Warren Post, 30 Mar 2011

LOGFILE /usr/home/USERNAME/www_logs/example.com*
OUTFILE /usr/www/users/USERNAME/ANALOG_REPORTS/example.com.html
FROM -00-00-90
UNCOMPRESS *.gz (/usr/bin/gunzip -c)
HOSTNAME "example.com"
HOSTURL http://www.example.com/
CHARTDIR example.com/
LOCALCHARTDIR /usr/www/users/USERNAME/ANALOG_REPORTS/example.com/
GENERAL ON
MONTHLY OFF
WEEKLY ON
FULLDAILY ON
DAILY ON
HOURLY ON
REQUEST ON
FAILURE ON
DIRECTORY OFF
HOST ON
ORGANISATION ON
DOMAIN ON
REFERRER ON
ALLCHART ON
SEARCHQUERY ON
SEARCHWORD OFF
BROWSER ON
OSREP ON
FILETYPE OFF
SIZE OFF
STATUS OFF
LANGUAGE ENGLISH

Naturally, you'll want to replace USERNAME with the user name of your web hosting account and example.com with your domain.
